The Mayans were a highly developed civilisation. Their empire, hidden in the rainforest, consisted of huge palaces and imposing pyramids. Although they had settled on the Yucatán peninsula of Mexico much earlier, they perfected their construction techniques around the year 900 A.D. Beach

There are very few tourist attractions on Isla Mujeres, the `Island of Women’, which is just a 15-minute boat ride from Cancún. But that is precisely the point. Visitors come here to laze around, relax in a hammock under swaying palm trees and sip ice cold margaritas. It is also wonderful to swim in the turquoise Caribbean Sea or sit on the beach and watch the sunset while eating fresh fish.
